Learn to Row Program
The Armidale Rowing Club’s Learn to Row Course is designed to teach the basic skills involved with rowing for those who have never rowed before, and a useful refresher for those who haven’t rowed for a long time.
The course consists of an initial 5 week program followed by a preliminary 2 months membership:
WEEK | ACTIVITY | DESCRIPTION |
---|---|---|
Week 1 | Free Taster | Come and try rowing! It will give you an opportunity to meet other members in action and gain an idea of what rowing is like once you have acquired the necessary skills. It will also give you a chance to explore what the Club has to offer in regard to equipment and membership. You will also have an opportunity to get on the water in a rowing boat and get a feel for what it is all about and if this is a sport you would like to get into. The aim is if you are happy with what you see, registering for the Learn to Row Program |
Week 2 | Compulsory Land based Training | This session includes coaching on a rowing simulator (erg) and an introduction to boat handling and to rowing terminology |
Weeks 3-5 | On Water Coaching | These 3 weekends are designed to give all participants a basic understanding of crew rowing in a quad scull and potentially a single scull. |
Weeks 6-13 | 2 Months Preliminary Membership | After initial coaching sessions you will be offered a further 2 months of membership covering a pathway of skill development before you reach a suitable level that will enable you to row with experienced members. You can then consider joining club on a permanent basis as either a social rower or competitor at regattas |
